1st September: Meeting for participating NGOs in COP-8 (Palacio de Prensa, Madrid)

.3rd to 7th:  Technical Conference on the FAO’s Genetic Animal Resources –Interlaken, Switzerland.

3rd to 14th: 8th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention to combat Desertification (COP-8 of UNCCD)-Palacio de Congresos, Madrid

5th: Press Conference at the Ministerio de Agricultura (Department of Agriculture)

6th to 7th: National Gathering of Nomadic and Transhumant Pastoralists

8th to 14th: World Gathering of Nomadic and Transhumant Pastoralists

15th to 18 th I WAMIP CONGRESS in Valsaín – La Granja, Segovia.Cultural Program (Series of documentaries, photography exhibition)

  

PROVISIONAL PROGRAM OF EVENTS AND METHODOLOGY OF THE SESSIONS

FRIDAY 7: Participants arrive in Madrid.
Transfer to la Granja Escuela del Robledo (La Granja de San Ildefonso) and welcome. 


SATURDAY 8: OFFICIAL NAUGURATION OF THE WORLD GATHERING OF NOMADIC AND TRANSHUMANT PASTORALISTS.

12:00 Official inauguration of the World Gathering at La Granja en el Parador, La Granja de San Ildefonso.

17:00 Presentation of the delegations.


SUNDAY 9: MARCH IN MADRID AND PASSING THE SHEEP THROUGH THE CITY:

"Nomadic and Transhumant Pastoralists United in the Fight for the Future" Participants attend the annual passing of transhumant herds through the city of Madrid:  

9.00 Departure of pastoralists participating with native livestock breeds from the Casa de Campo via el Puente del Rey, Avenida de la Virgen del Puerto, Parque de Atenas and Cuesta de la Vega.

12.00 Passing through Arenal, the Palacio Real and the Catedral de La Almudena.

All the people and the delegates of the Convention, as well as the representatives of the nomadic communities that are participating will head from Sol to the Plaza Mayor, where they will be received by the Ayuntamiento de Madrid (Madrid City Council), with a celebratory drink. Afterwards, at around 13..30-14.00, everyone will be taken by bus from the Palacio Real to the lake at the Casa de Campo. 

12.00 The rest of the participants will continue along the Cuesta de La Vega and the Paseo de la Virgen del Puerto in order to return to the Casa de Campo.

14.00 Brotherhood Lunch at the lake

17.00 Say goodbye to the participants.  

19.00 -20:30 Dinner  


MONDAY 10: A DAY TO UNDERSTAND

 7.00 Wake up call

 8.00 Breakfast

 8:30 Opening Ceremony and defining the objectives.Presentation of the participants and the facilitators.

9:30 – 10:00 Formation of the working groups according to 2 categories: pastoralists and nomads, and other relevant representatives from the pastoralist sector (government representatives, NGOs, researchers, others). Subdivide these groups into geographical regions (Asia, Africa, America, Europe).

 10: 00 – 10:30 Break

10:30 – 13: 00 Work in groups (4 pastoralist groups and 4 non pastoralist groups = 8 groups). The following methodology will be supervised by the facilitators who will encourage a discussion about the current situation based on the problems already identified.
In the civil groups and government representatives sector there will be a round of personal presentations and the opportunity to present scientific research at the CENEAM

 13: 00- 15:00 Lunch

 15:00- 17:00     Working groups continue: ANALYSING THE SITUATION

 

17:00-17:30 Break

 17:30-19:00    Synthesis of the working groups from different continents.

 19:00-20:30 Dinner

 20:30-22:00 Documentaries, presenting experiences, local music and cultural exchange.


TUESDAY 11: A DAY FOR HOPE

7:00 Wake up call

8:00 Breakfast

8:30-9:30 Presentation given by the working group representatives of the synthesis which brings together the problems identified in the plenary session.

9:30-11:00 Explanation of the methodology and formation of the working groups according to cultural similarities, tribes, countries… INDIVIDUAL VISIONS OF THE FUTURE and registration. The following question should be answered “you are contemplating your people and lands in two generations’ time, what would you like to see?”

The problems that have been presented and ways to confront them will be dealt with in the non pastoralist group.

 11:00-11:30 Break

 11:30-13:30 Continue the discussions in working groups for the FUTURE VISION OF THE GROUP.

13:30-15:30  Lunch

13:30–15:30 SIDE EVENT IN THE COP8 UNCCD - MADRID

15:30- 17:00 Working in a plenary session in order to prepare the GLOBAL VISION with all the different groups.

 17:00-17:30 Break

 17:30-19:00 Plenary session discussing the conclusions of the GLOBAL VISION and the solutions proposed by the non pastoralist group for the identified problems in an ANALYSIS OF THE SITUATION.

 19: 00-20:30   Dinner

 20:30-22:00 Cultural exchange, music and dancing.


WEDNESDAY 12: A DAY FOR BUILDING ALTERNATIVES

 7:00 Wake up call

 8:00 Breakfast

 8:30–11:00   Formation of working groups by sector and geographical regions in order to define a STRATEGY, ACTION PLAN AND AGENDAS FOR CHANGE

 11:00-11:30  Break

 11:30-13:00  Continue working groups.

 13:00–15:00  Lunch

 15:00–17:00  Synthesis of working groups

 17:00-17:30     Break

 17:30–19:00   Plenary session to discuss the ACTION PLAN AND STRATEGIES together.

18:00    SIDE EVENT COP8

19:00-20:30  Food tasting, new technologies and craftsmanship exhibition.

 

                  

21:00   Cultural activities.

 


THURSDAY 13: A STATEMENT FOR THE FUTURE

8:30 -10:30   Plenary session to present the
draft statement.

                  

10:30-11:00  Break

 

11:00–13:00  Work in groups to go through the statement.

13:00-15:00   Lunch

15:00 -17:00   Continue working.

 17:00 – 17:30   Break

 17:30–19:00   Plenary session to reach an agreement on the final statement.

19:00–20.30   Dinner

 20.30-22:00   Food tasting, cultural exchange, music and dance.


FRIDAY 14: CLOSING CEREMONY AND FAREWELL PARTY

 Official closure of the Gathering in the town of Segovia.

 8:00 Wake up call

9:00 – 9:30 Breakfast

10:00 – 12:00 Departure for Segovia and city visit.

 12:00 Official welcome – Sala de las Alhóndigas

 12:30 Present the conclusions and close with a representative of the Head of State as well as representatives from the European Commission, the European Parliament, the United Nations, the Junta de Castilla y Leon and the Consistoria de Segovia etc.

 14:00 Lunch.

 16:00 Crafts and native breeds exhibition in the Plaza del Azoguejo, in Segovia. Musical performances. Farewell party.


SATURDAY 15

Departure to Madrid of some delegates. Fot the remaining ones cattle activities and fair in Cañada Real Soriana ( Royal cattle track)


SUNDAY 16

Departure of remaining delegates. Meeting of Organisattive and Steering Commitees to evaluate results.
