SEGOVIA:
In 1985 the city of Segovia was declared a World Heritage Site because of its Roman aqueduct, its historic, medieval character and the landscape that surrounds it.
Segovia is a beautiful city located where the rivers Eresma and Clamores meet. It is situated one thousand metres above sea level and 12 kilometres from the Sierra de Guadarrama (Guadarrama mountains). It is the capital of the province also called Segovia and is mainly known for its agrarian, forestry and livestock resources, as well as products related to the art of preparing good food.
This city is located about 90 kilometres away from Madrid. The best way to reach it by road from the Spanish capital is to take the A-6 motorway, cross the Sistema Central (central mountain range) via the Guadarrama tunnel and follow the motorway heading towards Segovia.
As Segovia is so close to the mountains it has a cold but refreshing climate. There are often frosts during the winter, which lasts longer than usual. This benefits the lush natural surroundings which are particularly impressive around the forests, streams and secluded areas of great beauty. All the hotels are perfectly adapted to the climatic conditions of this region so that your stay is as comfortable as possible
Segovia is also known by the nickname "Navío de Piedra" (Stone Ship). This is because the profile view of the Alcázar castle, positioned above the forest of rock outcrops on which it is situated, looks incredibly like the bow of a ship, and the lofty tower of the Cathedral looks like the mast with its flag flying. Aside from its poetic charm, Segovia is one of the most beautiful cities in Spain with more monuments and historic and cultural traditions than any other.
